Mirsad “Miki” Jacevic
Mirsad Jacevic is a seasoned conflict resolution and peace building practitioner with almost 30 years of experience in this field. Having seen first-hand the impact of war in his native Bosnia, Mr. Jacevic has led efforts to prevent conflict, stop violence, and help nations rebuild. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Inclusive Security, Senior Fellow at Our Secure Future, and the Lead Associate at Gender Associations International. In addition, he regularly works with the UN – both national and regional offices – to advance the creation and implementation of National Action Plans to create a more inclusive peace agenda. Mr. Jacevic authored several Curricula, including the seminal, Women Waging Peace – Curriculum for Inclusive Security. He oversaw the creation of specialized Curricula on Conflict Analysis and Resolution; Security Sector Reform; National Action Plans development, and Advocacy for Sustainable Peace. An experienced trainer, he designed and facilitated over one thousand trainings in Africa, greater Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Americas and Asia, Mr. Jacevic also developed academic courses/seminars on various peace building topics at scores of international universities and schools. Mr. Jacevic was instrumental in building an inclusive Afghan Peace and Reconstruction Programme, Liberian post-conflict development strategy, Colombian transitional justice and disarmament structures, and Pakistan police reform initiatives. In addition, he has worked in Guatemala, Nigeria, Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan, and has extensive experience in various aspects of post-conflict reconstruction in his native Balkans region. Over the last 15 years, his primary focus has been on developing official government policies and strategies to translate international commitments into specific actions at national and local levels. He has worked with close to seventy governments on projects ranging from the development of a first-time National Action Plan (Afghanistan, Brazil, and Indonesia) to evaluating the impact of a current plan (Bosnia and Hercegovina, Finland, and Liberia). He facilitated NAP Academies with OSCE, UNDP and UNW to bring countries together to share their experiences (Kenya, Japan, and Lithuania). Mr. Jacevic has also assisted regional organizations such as European and African Union, ASEAN and NATO in their own Regional Action Plans development, implementation, and monitoring. He has been honored with numerous awards, including the Fetzer Institute Fellowship, Rotary International Scholarship, Soros Foundation Scholarship, State of the World Forum ChangeMaker award and honorary President of the Bosnian Student Union. Mr. Jacevic teaches at the Rotary International Peace Fellowship program, American University, and Georgetown University, with a special focus on measuring the impact of peace programming. He is married to Guatemalan human rights activist Eva Morales Contrerras, and they have raised two amazing Bosnian-Guatemalan Americans now well in their twenties – a feat both consider a miracle, given the road they traveled! |
